The functions of the PT cabinet

The functions of the PT cabinet in high-voltage switchgear are:

1. Voltage measurement, providing a voltage circuit for measuring meters

2. Providing operating and control power

3. Installing overvoltage protectors for each busbar section

4. Meeting relay protection requirements, such as busbar insulation, overvoltage, undervoltage, and backup automatic switching conditions.

The metering cabinet in high-voltage switchgear has two functions:

5. Measuring electricity consumption. This metering cabinet is generally managed by the power department.

6. Busbar lowering. Generally, after the cable enters the incoming isolation cabinet, the busbar reaches the upper part of the cabinet, then the metering cabinet, and then from the upper part to the lower part. The lower part reaches the lower incoming line of the incoming (circuit breaker) cabinet, and then reaches the upper part.

The differences between PT cabinets and meter cabinets in high-voltage switchgear:

1. PT cabinets have trolleys. Meter cabinets vary by region; some do not have trolleys, while others do. For example, Anhui Derun Electric’s KYN28 high-voltage switchgear comes with a trolley.

2. PT cabinets have lightning arresters, which are stored in the trolley or behind the cabinet. Meter cabinets do not.

3. PT cabinets do not have a live voltage indicator, while meter cabinets do.

4. Meter cabinets have current transformers, while PT cabinets do not.

5. Meter cabinets are generally used as metering outgoing line cabinets or metering interconnection cabinets. PT cabinets are typically located behind incoming line cabinets and before feeder cabinets, with only the main busbar passing through them and not used for outgoing line operations.
